Fortitude press release from Pivot:

Participant Media and Sky Atlantic announced Feb. 2 the new cast joining season two of the critically acclaimed drama series, “Fortitude.” Golden Globe nominated Dennis Quaid (“The Art of More,” Far From Heaven), Parminder Nagra (“The Blacklist,” “ER”), Michelle Fairley (“Game of Thrones”), Robert Sheehan (“Misfits”), and Ken Stott (“The Missing”) have joined the cast of the chilling arctic thriller. Principal photography is already underway in London.

Season 2 of “Fortitude” will return to Participant Media’s television network, Pivot, and Sky Atlantic in Fall 2016.

“We are thrilled to be working with Sky once again on this bold Arctic thriller, and to welcome these extraordinary actors into the cozy, twisted world of Fortitude,” said Belisa Balaban, Executive Vice President of Original Programming, Pivot. “The second season promises another unexpected journey into this melting glacial landscape.”

Viewers of the second season will enjoy a fast paced new story that will see the Arctic town gripped by explosive events. In Fortitude nothing, and no one, is ever what they seem. A fresh murder rocks the community and plunges it into turmoil. And out in the stunning icy wilderness, nature is growing even more unpredictable, deadly and dangerous.

Simon Donald, the creator and writer said: “Sky and Pivot are letting me return to the Arctic with Fortitude II. Given what happened in our story previously this may be somewhat reckless. But with Dennis Quaid, Michelle Fairley, Ken Stott, Parminder Nagra and Robert Sheehan to play with—somewhat reckless should get thrillingly intense.”

Returning cast members include Sofie Gråbøl (“The Killing”), Richard Dormer (“Game of Thrones”) and Luke Treadaway (“Unbroken”). Darren Boyd (“Stan Lee’s Lucky Man”), Björn Hlynur Haraldsson (“The Borgias”), Mia Jexen (“Happiness”), Alexandra Moen (“Strike Back”), Verónica Echegui (“The Cold Light of Day”), Sienna Guillory (“Stan Lee’s Lucky Man”) and Ramon Tikaram (“Jupiter Ascending”) also return.

Season 1 of Fortitude quickly became both Pivot’s and Sky Atlantic’s most popular original series to date. It also was broadcast in more than 170 territories around the world.

“I’m incredibly excited to welcome these great names to our already amazing returning cast for the next series of Fortitude,” Zai Bennett, Director of Sky Atlantic. “We know our customers love epic dramas and world-class storytelling and they appreciate that having the very best actors are integral to bringing these shows to life. Its success around the world is testament to all involved and we are delighted to be working with Pivot again for this second series.”

The creative team behind season one will return. The show was created, written, and executive produced by Simon Donald. Hettie Macdonald directs. Patrick Spence, Faye Dorn and Frith Tiplady serve as executive producers for Fifty Fathoms/Tiger Aspect. Jeff Skoll and Chris Loveall serve as executive producers for Pivot. Anne Mensah and Lizzie Gray serve as executive producers for Sky Atlantic.

“Fortitude” is a Sky/Participant Media Original Series, with international distribution handled by Sky Vision.
